One of the challenges I had with cloth diapers was what to do with disposable wipes. I needed a can for dirty diapers and then a trash can for dirty disposable wipes. That trash can seemed to always be stinky! So, I decided to try cloth wipes.
I bought receiving blankets at a consignment store for .25/each and cut them into 6x6 squares. I then just surged the edges on my MIL's sewing machine.
Next, I needed solution. I searched may different blogs and talked to lots of mamas and everybody does something different! I was looking for easy and using stuff I already had, so this is what I found. It works great for us!
This is the recipe that I use:
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup soap
2 cups water
I bought this coconut oil before I knew the unrefined was better, so I chose to use it as my oil and regular Johnson & Johnson's baby wash as my soap. I later modified the recipe to use an organic soap, to eliminate some of the chemicals from Johnson & Johnson's.
I use a squirt bottle that I bought for less than $1 and just squirt the wipes before I use them. For travel, I do prepare a baggie of wet wipes and keep them with me in my diaper bag.
This has solved the stinkyness issue and I find it much easier to just throw them in with my diapers.
